Slinky Coils
A cousin of the horizontal loop system that is useful with new constructions in soil or clay based land, and in areas that don't experience extreme weather. They are called Slinky Coils, because the piping is laid out in the six foot trenches in large overlapping loops. A backhoe or trencher does the work, and 400 to 600 feet of loop are laid for each ton of heating or cooling. Depending on climate, the heat pump's run fraction, soil, the system is between a third, and two-thirds shorter than a traditional horizontal system.
